Club founded on 13th June to play a 20-over match at Reepham (lost by 28 runs).  4 further matches played with borrowed kit.  All were lost.  Players who appeared in the first season included:  Steve Phoenix (Capt), Chris Lacey, Mike Phoenix, Steve Carr, Chris Betts, John Griffin, Trevor Parfitt, Ian Cartwright, Geoff Batley, Mark English, John Scott, Richard Green, Steve Fincham, Alan Marham, Mick White and Ray Chamberlin  (4 lived in Great Melton).

1975

First Team 3rd in the Knights Norfolk League Division 1 – the club's highest finish for 18 years and the 2nd highest ever.  A Team Champions of Division 5 (Promoted).  B Team 4th in Division 6.  Sunday Team 3rd in the Mid-Norfolk League Shield Premier Division.  ‘Hawaii Five-O' tour to Matlock Bath.  Artificial wicket laid on the junior ground.  Bar in operation and planning permission sought for extension to pavilion.

2007

First team 3rd in Knights Norfolk League Division 1 and semi-finalists in the Lady Mary Trophy.  A Team 3rd in Division 4.  B Team 3rd in Division 6.  Fourth Saturday league team formed: C Team 6th in Norfolk League Division 10.  Sunday Team 7th in the Mid-Norfolk Sunday League Shield Premier Division.  Under 13s became the first Great Melton team to reach a county cup final. Winners of the Wicklewood Shield. A Team winners of the Jubilee Cup (6-a-side).  Grass wicket laid on the junior ground.  Building work started on the extension to the pavilion.

2008

B Team Champions of Division 6 (Promoted).  C Team finished 4th in Division 10.  Sunday Team 3rd in the Mid-Norfolk Sunday League Boyle Division 1. Under 17s Bob Carter Junior Cup Finalists and winners of the ‘Fair Play' Shield. Club hosts its first county final: the Andy Seeley Cup Final.  New dressing rooms in use.

2009

2013

First Team 2nd in Frankly Digital Norfolk Cricket Alliance Division 2 (Promoted).  A Team 8th in Division 4.  B Team 8th in Lucas Fettes Norfolk Cricket League Division 2.  C Team 3rd in Division 4 (Promoted).  Sunday Team 7th in Mid Norfolk Sunday Shield Premier Division (Relegated)  Newly-formed Sunday A Team played a series for friendly matches. Women 4th in the TGS Women's League & the U13 Girls won the County Lady Taverners Softball Competition.  U15s & U13s South Norfolk Community League Champions & U13s Alan Bridgewater & ECB Competition runners-up.  U14s won the South Norfolk Community Zip League.  England player Beth Morgan visited Melton Park to coach the girls & 10 U12 boys and girls, with coaches Steve Phoenix & Clive Gristwood, invited to perform a Kwik Cricket demonstration on the outfield at Lords during the Ashes test. The new junior pavilion completed and the wall at the far end of the ground rebuilt.

2014

40th Anniversary celebrations included a Beer Festival and ‘Legends' Cricket match, with many past players returning to Melton.  First Team 9th in Dipple & Conway Alliance Division 1 (Relegated),  A Team 2nd in Division 4 (Promoted).  B Team 8th in Lucas Fettes Norfolk Cricket League Division 2.  C Team 5th in Division 4.  Sunday Team 4th in Mid Norfolk Sunday Boyle Division 1  & the Sunday A Team played 6 friendly matches.  Midweek A Team runners-up in the Wicklewood Shield.  Women competed in the  TGS Women's League & won the Norfolk Indoor League.  U13 Girls 4th in the (mainly boys) SNCL and the U15 Girls won the Norfolk Lady Taverners Competition and were Regional Runners-Up.  U15s, U13s & U11s were South Norfolk Community League Champions (all unbeaten).  U11s were first Melton junior boys team to win a county competition, the Terry Moore Trophy. U9s Runners-Up in the South Norfolk Community League.  U14s retained the South Norfolk Community Zip League. The club fielded 15 teams & played a record 179 matches.  Grenville Ireland (Lifetime Achievement) and Hannah Brook (Young Volunteer) won OSCAs & Grenville stood down as Treasurer after 20 years. Tragedy struck in late-October when former secretary and player, David Bartram, died suddenly, aged 44.

2015

A difficult season for the seniors, caused mainly by the loss of established first team players and variable availability.  2nd successive relegation for the First Team (from NCA Division 2) and also for the A Team (NCA Division 3).  B and C Teams finished 7th and 8th respectively in Divisions 2 and 3W of the Norfolk League. Sunday 1st Team gained promotion, as R/U, from MNSL Boyle Division 1. Midweek A Team won the Wicklewood Shield.  Junior numbers topped 200  for the first time, including over 50 girls. U9s and U13s finished champions of the South Norfolk Community League.  U11s & U13s reached Alliance quarter finals & U13s ECB semi-finals.  Women 3rd in TGS league & U13 Girls again competed well in SNCL.  Fielded an U7 team for first time.  Improvements to the pavilion area included a new patio, garden & refurbished kitchen.  Club held 2nd successful Beer Festival.

2016

Improved availability resulted in a much better season with four of the club's five league teams finishing 3rd in their respective divisions (1st Team 3rd in Alliance Div 3; B & C Teams 3rd in Norfolk League Divisions 2E & 3W; Sunday team 3rd in Shield Premier Division).  Unfortunately the A Team did not fare so well & were 9th in Alliance 4 & were relegated.  The Midweek teams won the Wicklewood Shield & finished runners-up in the Hunts Bat K.O.Cup while the U19s reached finals day in the ECB T20.  The U13s were the most successful junior side reaching the final of the Alan Bridgewater Trophy & finishing runners-up in the South Norfolk Community League.  Unfortunately an exodus of older girls meant that the women's team were unable to compete in the women's league but an U13 Girls' side again played against mainly boys' teams in the SNCL.   Off the field the most significant occurrence was the severe damage to the iconic oak tree which saw 3 of its main branches break off resulting in severe pruning.

2017

The 1st Team, user the captaincy of Olly Harris, finished runners-up in Alliance Division 3, earning promotion while the other senior teams were 5th (A Team), 7th (B Team), 6th (C Team) and 6th (Sunday Team) in their respective divisions. The Midweek A Team lost to Hingham in the final of the Wicklewood Shield and there were enough ladies/older girls to once again compete in the re-named Shell Women's League..  The U11s swept all before them, winning all 18 of their matches and the Terry Moore Trophy, the South Norfolk Community League's Barnard Division and Carnival Cup.  After a 6 year break the ‘tour' was back on and Melton's ‘convicts' headed for Hertfordshire.  A clock, in memory of former President Andy Seeley was installed on the score hut and despite fundraising for the nets being hit by the purchase of a new ride-on mower, a £15000 grant from the ECB finally meant that the new two-bay £30,000 installation was completed by the end of the year.  Great Melton gained Clubmark re-accreditation and some re-structuring of the club saw several new roles created at the A.G.M.

2018

The loss of several key players, including captain Olly Harris, from 2017s promotion-winning 1st Team, made 2018 a difficult season.  Richard Waddell took over as skipper but the 1st Team finished well adrift at the bottom of Alliance Division 2.  A Team 3rd in Alliance Division 5, Bs 6th in Norfolk League Division 2 West and Cs 4th in Division 4 South. The Sunday Team finished second from bottom in the Shield Premier Division while the Ladies 5th in the Shell Women’s League. The usual mix of midweek T20s in the Hunts Cup and Wicklewood Shield; a very successful tour to Yorkshire and a long, hot summer meant that a record 162 matches – 86 senior and 76 junior – were completed.  The U15s had a very good season, winning the Andy Seeley Cup (a first for the club) and the South Norfolk Community League Carnival Cup; the U13s won the SNCL; the U11s the SNCL Carnival Cup and the Gresham’s Tournament and the U13 Girls the Lady Taverner's Softball Tournament.  George Bunn broke the 15-year-old club record for the highest individual score with 203 not out against Acle in a Sunday League game.

2019

The 1st Team's yo-yo existence continued as they bounced back to Division 2 at the first attempt under the captaincy of Richard Waddell, finishing runners-up to Bradenham.  The A Team were 4th in NCA Division 5, the Bs struggled & were relegated from NCL Division 2 while the Cs were 7th in 4SE.  The Sunday team finished 4th & the Women 5th in their respective leagues while ‘Romans' was the theme for another successful tour – to Sheffield. The U15s won the SNCL, the U11 Girls triumphed in the Langley School Tournament while the U9s reached the NCA John Dewing final.  The Club purchased new sightscreens and, thanks to a generous bequest in memory of Vice-Presidents Alan & Kate Barnard,  a portable electronic scoreboard.

2020

Coronavirus and Covid19 were the words that dominated 2020 and, by the time the country emerged from lockdown in mid-July, any hopes of a normal cricket season had evaporated.  The 1st & A Teams competed in a NCB regionalised mini-tournament (the 1sts finished 2nd) while a series of Sunday friendlies and junior fixtures were hastily arranged.  With the pandemic meaning no changing rooms or showers, no use of the pavilion, no teas, one-way systems on the ground and strict hygiene protocols the fact that over 60 matches were played, the nets were almost fully booked & coaching was provided for over 100 youngsters, spoke volumes for the organisation and commitment of Melton's team of volunteers.

2021

Covid 19 continued to have an impact and the 2021 season went ahead with no changing rooms nor teas and continued emphasis on social distancing and sanitation breaks.  With Town Close School Playing Field no longer available the club had to access an alternative (and inferior) pitch at the UEA for the B and C teams.  Nevertheless membership was at an all-time high with 70 senior and 200 junior members including 60 women and girls and 2021 saw the likes of the Greenslade bothers, Chris and Joey and Martyn Cook return to Norfolk – and Great Melton. In total our teams played 132 matches.  The 1st team finished 6th in NCA Division 2, the A Team 2nd in Alliance Division 5, the B Team 6th in NCL Division 3SE and the Cs 9th in 4W.  The Women had a great season, winning the NCB Shell Women's Summer League.  The U17s, U15s, U13s and U9s won their South Norfolk Community League divisions with the U13s doing the ‘double' winning the NCA Alan Bridgewater Cup.

2022

2022 saw a new Club Captain, Chris Greenslade, and new team captains, Joey Greenslade (1st team) and Nick Aston (A Team) but it also marked the final season as Chairman for stalwart, Steve Phoenix, who celebrated his 70th year, his 39th as Chairman, with his 1000th appearance for Great Melton following a month in hospital at the end of 2021 paralysed by Guillain Barre Syndrome.  With things almost back to normal following Covid and new sponsors in Alan Boswell, Yellow Brick Mortgages and Nimbus, the club had a record membership of 323, including 245 juniors and 91 females.  We fielded and record number of teams, 21, and played a record number of games – 179 – in a long, hot summer that saw no Saturday abandonments nor cancellations.  The 1st Team were 3rd in NCA Division 2, the A Team 9th (relegated) in Division 4 while the Bs finished 2nd (promoted) in NCL Division 2E and the C team 7th in 4W.  We withdrew from the Mid-Norfolk Sunday League and, instead, played friendlies but the Club fielded an Over 40s team for the first time.  The U11s won the Terry Moore Trophy while the U17s, U15s and U11s all reached County finals.  19 youngsters made County squads while Steve Phoenix (Outstanding Service) and Niamh Rushton (Rising Star) won NCB Volunteer Awards.  In the Autumn work was started on a project aimed at improving pavilion facilities and access for women and girls.  At the AGM Chris Wright was elected Chairman.

2023

The 49th and most successful year in the history of the club.  The 1st Team (Champions of NCA Div.2), A Team (2nd in NCA Div.4) and C Team (2nd in NCL Div.4SE) were all promoted while the U17s (Alan Kefford), U15s (Andy Seeley) and U9s (John Dewing) all won their respective Alliance competitions, the U13s won the ECB K.O. Cup Norfolk Final while the U19s were runners-up in the NCB K.O. T20 competition. The indoor squad had set the ball rolling in March by winning the NCB Indoor Tournament.  All this, despite Chris Wright stepping down as Chairman in early Spring (replaced by Simon Woods), and Maxine Rushton having to rescue the Pavilion project which had stalled post-Christmas.  A sterling effort by Maxine and numerous club members saw the pavilion made ready for the start of the season and our efforts to improve things for girls and women were enough to earn the ‘Club' Award at the NCB Volunteer Awards Dinner.  2023 also saw a return to Town Close for the B and C Teams.

2024

Another successful season during the club's 50th Anniversary Year. The club achieved consolidation in 2024, with the 1st, A, and C Teams comfortably competing in their new higher divisions, and the A Team finishing 3rd. The B Team, after relegation in 2023, remained unbeaten and returned to Norfolk League Division 1. Junior teams also saw success, with the U15s winning the Andy Seeley Trophy and the U13s winning the ECB County Cup and reaching the regional final. The 21 teams provided all members with opportunities to play competitive cricket. The club also benefitted financially from a successful bar, the 50th Anniversary weekend, and the Presentation Dinner, all contributing to a positive financial report. Changes to the Committee included Matt Rushton as Vice-Chairman, Nick Aston as Head of Junior Coaching, Seshni Mohammed as Secretary,  Rich Waddell as Head of Senior Cricket and Olly Harris will be the new Over 40s Captain.

2025    

Great Melton's indoor team won the NCA Indoor championship but the loss of several members of the 1^st team squad had a knock-on effect for all the senior teams. Richard Waddell (Club Captain) and George Bunn (1^st Team Captain) took on the responsibility of leading the club through this period of transition and the spirit remained good despite all 4 Saturday teams being relegated. The Over 40s was the most successful senior team, finishing 3^rd in the NCB North & East Division, while the junior section continued to prosper.  The U15s won the Andy Seeley Cup for the 3^rd successive season, as well as the ECB Cup (Norfolk) while the U11s won the Terry Moore Trophy.  The Ladies section amalgamated with Swardeston & competed in the EAPL Iceni Premier Division and the NCA Shell Women's League and, in total, the club fielded 24 teams and played 207 hardball and 18 softball matches in a very busy season.
